Robert J. Nilon

My husband and I were childhood friends of Bobby's and we were saddened to hear of his death. We both have many good memories of growing up in Ridley Park with Bobby and his family. He was a little bit crazy, but oh so much fun! He was extremely kind and generous to everyone who knew him. God Bless.

When I was a little girl, Bobby Nilon kept a horse named "Sheba" at a stable behind our house. This was not way out in the country somewhere, but in Ridley Park. Seeing a horse was not a common occurrence, to say the least. But a few times a week, if I was sitting on my front stoop at the right time, I'd see Bobby walking Sheba across the street and toward his house on Hinckley Ave. When I shared this story with Bobby's sister, Reene, not that long ago, she told me that Bobby would bring Sheba home and put him in the garage! I remember how Bobby was just so cool, but as cool as he was, he always stopped and let this little, nagging kid pet his horse before he clip-clopped up Tome Street toward his home.

I also know he helped a lot of people at House of Hope. He left the world a better place than he found it. May he be at peace. I envision him riding a Palomino somewhere at full gallop.
