Richard A. Rhode

Richard A. Rhode, 80, of Kutztown, died Saturday, August 8, 2009 in Kutztown Manor Nursing Home, Kutztown, where he was a resident since November 2003. He was the widower of Anna Lou (Shoemaker) Rhode who died February 10, 2004.

Born in Kutztown, PA, he was a son of the late Austin H. and Kathryn L. (Smith) Rhode. He was a member of Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, Kutztown, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Rhode was a member and past director of Kutztown Lions Club, Kutztown. He was a recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Richard was a member of Huguenot Lodge #377, F.&A.M., Kutztown. Mr. Rhode was a dedicated community volunteer having served as a little league coach; was a driver and attendant on the Kutztown Ambulance; and was a former member of Kutztown Jaycees.

He is survived by Daughters, Karen B. Rhode and Louise E. (Rhode) wife of Bruce C. Wessner, both of Kutztown, and Sue A. (Rhode) wife of Terry E. Kunkel, Kempton. There are 4 Grandchildren, Ethan A. Kunkel, Dr. Abbie L. (Kunkel) Moriarty, Katie E. (Wessner) Bauscher and Jacob B. Wessner. In addition there are 9 Great Grandchildren, and a Sister, Thelma R. (Rhode) wife of William Smith, Indiana, PA.

Funeral Services are Tuesday, August 11, 2009, 11:00 AM from Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, 47 South Whiteoak Street, Kutztown. Interment in Hope Cemetery, Kutztown. Friends may call Tuesday, from 9:00 to 10:45 AM. Masonic Services by Huguenot Lodge #377 Kutztown at 10:45 AM.

The family requests contributions be made to the memorial fund of St. Paul’s U.C.C. Church, 47 S. Whiteoak St., Kutztown. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
