Lewis E. Hafer
Lewis E. Hafer, 88, of Sandhill Road, Fleetwood, died Monday, November 24, 2008 in the Kutztown Manor, Kutztown, where he had been a resident since March 11, 2007. He was the husband of Violet M. (Griggs) Hafer. They were married on January 25, 1946.
Born in Kutztown, PA, he was a son of the late James and Catherine (Mertz) Hafer. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Kutztown. He was a member of the US Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines serving during WWII. Mr. Hafer was a truck driver for Atlas Minerals and Chemical, Mertztown, for 26 years retiring in 1986. Memberships include the Lyons and Kutztown Fire Companies.
He is survived by Wife, Daughter, Joanne M. (Hafer) Metzler, last residing in Fleetwood; Son, Gary K. Hafer, Bowmanstown; 5 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.
Graveside Services are Monday, December 1, 2008 at 2:00 PM in Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown. Military Honors will be provided by the Ray A. Master, Post #217, American Legion Honor Guard, Topton. There are no calling hours.
The family requests contributions to the Heartland Hospice, 881 Marcon Blvd., Allentown, PA 18109. Arrangements are by the Ludwick Funeral Home, Kutztown, PA.
